Abstract

The special type of linear programming problem where special mathematical structure of restrictions is used is the transportation problem. The central concept of transportation problem is to determine the minimum total transportation cost of a commodity for satisfying the demand at destination using the available supply at the origins. In real–life situations, the parameters of transportation problems may not be known precisely because of uncontrollable factors. Herein, a strategy is proposed for solving fuzzy transportation problems in which the transportation costs , supply and demand are represented as interval-valued trapezoidal fuzzy numbers. Finally, a numerical example is provided to illustrate the strategy and the result show that the proposed method is simpler and computationally more efficient.
