Abstract

This study investigated effect of repeated exposure to low doses of diuron in gilthead sea bream by measuring the activities of the following antioxidant enzymes: Superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPX), glutathione reductase (GR), glutathione transferase (GST), and DT-diaphorase (DTD). Examination of the lipid peroxidation (malondialdehyde content- MDA) and glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PDH) activity in these fish was also done.  The results show that diuron exposure induces effects that are evident after 15 days of treatment.  Almost all tissues are affected by treatment with diuron. MDA value of muscle and liver can be used as a biomarker of alterations in the oxidative state and therefore of the health of the fish.
